Electricity cost calculator

Use measured watts, daily or annual energy, or a per-cycle label. Your usage, season and rate stay together in one estimate.

Your appliance

Find the variable rate on your bill

Annual mode uses the label’s yearly kWh without another hours or duty multiplier. In watts mode, use measured average watts at 100% duty, or nameplate watts with your measured duty cycle; seasonal months can be entered as 11,12,1,2,3. The EIA benchmark includes fixed charges averaged across electricity sold; do not add fixed fees to it.

EIA residential revenue per kWh sold, July 2026. Includes fixed-charge revenue in the average; this is a benchmark, not the marginal saving from switching an appliance off. Calculation method

Your calculation

13.2 kWh per month × 18.3¢ per kWh = $2.41. Annual energy is 158 kWh.

The annual EnergyGuide figure is divided by 12; duty and seasonal settings are not applied a second time.

Choose the right measure

Watts × hours × duty cycle ÷ 1,000 gives kWh. Measured daily, cycle and annual kWh already include the appliance cycling on and off. A washer's motor energy can exclude hot water; include separately measured water-heating energy when comparing a full laundry load.
