How the math works
Watts × hours ÷ 1,000 gives kilowatt-hours (kWh), the unit on your bill. Multiply by the price per kWh to get dollars. Appliances with a thermostat (fridges, heaters, irons) cycle on and off, so their real hours at full power are fewer than the hours they are switched on.
