Hot-tub electricity cost

Separate covered maintenance from heating and jets, or price measured whole-spa energy in cold and warm seasons.

Covered maintenance only

$298.34 for your included days per year

365 days included. 0 other days are unmodeled, not assumed free. Fixed fees, water, chemicals and equipment costs are excluded.

Annual average / month
$24.86
Per included day
$0.82
Included annual energy
1,629.36 kWh

18.31 cents/kWh · US EIA residential benchmark, 2026-07

An average month at this daily use would cost $24.86 (365/12 days). This differs from spreading a partial year's cost over 12 months.

Covered standby only. This scenario uses your covered-maintenance input and excludes bathing, jets and additional refill or recovery heating. The named default is a normalized test value, not a forecast of outdoor use.

Your spa and energy basis

Use a representative multi-day reading divided by its days. The 5 kWh starting value is illustrative; use a circuit or whole-spa measurement.

The named 186 W value is a normalized test average with its cover. It already includes normal heating/circulation; do not apply another heater duty cycle.

Set aside this time for bathing and any additional recovery or refill heating. The remaining hours use the covered maintenance average. 0 means covered standby only.

Heating, jets and other use-window loads

Heater-only input. Do not enter a whole-circuit reading that includes pumps you add separately. 0 excludes heater energy.

Actual energized time, not thermostat availability. Must fit inside the use/recovery window.

Input watts for the entered pump, not horsepower. Add multiple jets only if your entered watts represent their combined draw.

Can overlap heater on-time, but cannot exceed the use/recovery window.

Controls, circulation, lights or other loads not already counted in heater or jets. Applied across the whole window; 0 excludes them.

Whole days from 0 to 365. Excluded days have no modeled energy; do not assume a filled spa can simply be switched off.

Enter representative whole-spa daily energy for two nonoverlapping periods. The labels do not supply weather or energy assumptions. A period with zero days is excluded.

Your measured daily average, including covered heating, circulation and actual bathing use.

Whole days in your chosen period.

Your measured daily average for the rest of your chosen schedule.

The two periods together can cover at most 365 days.

Up to 80 characters. Record ambient/water temperature, wind, insulation or cover condition and use frequency. This note does not change the arithmetic.

State averages include fixed-charge revenue spread across kWh. They give benchmark costs; avoided bill charges depend on your own variable rate. Compare full tariff costs.

Normalized standby is a covered default-operation test metric. It is not the heater's nameplate draw, an annual whole-use measurement or a forecast for your weather. Multiplying 186 W by 24 hours gives 4.464 kWh for a full day at that test-average power; it does not add bathing or refill heat.

Cold weather, insulation and actual use

Record ambient and water temperatures, wind exposure, cover fit and condition, insulation and bathing frequency alongside your readings. Compare representative multi-day periods. A state electricity rate changes the price in this tool; it does not change heater runtime or estimate local weather.

In schedule mode, covered energy is average covered watts × (24 − use/recovery hours) ÷ 1,000. During the separate window, add heater watts × energized hours, jet watts × running hours, and other average watts × window hours, then divide by 1,000. Heater and jets can run together. Include refill/recovery in that window if you want it counted.

Measured modes use whole-spa readings directly. Cold/warm annual energy is each daily reading multiplied by its included days, then summed. No heater, standby or jet estimate is added again. Initial heating or unusual use is included only if your readings or schedule contain it. These calculations do not determine safe temperatures, sanitation, freeze protection or winterization.
